RehabTracker Goals

Makes it easy for patients and families to stay up to date on patient progress during their rehab stay.

• Get real-time updates on patient progress
• Invite family and friends to participate in your loved one’s care
• Track personalized goals
• Share messages of support with your loved one
• Receive notifications when patients reach their goals

During the course of treatment, therapist set goals with patients and enter updates about their progress during therapy sessions. Patients and family members receive real-time updates through RehabTracker, involving everyone in the recovery process and increasing the likelihood that patients return home safely.

User Research

I worked together with Matt Miller (ethnographic researcher) to formulate a questionnaire for our user groups: Therapists, Patients and Loved Ones. Our goal was to ask for specific examples throughout, rather than generalities.

After interviewing subjects, we synthesize the research, and map out the user journeys of the specific feature we are planning on implementing. Then we added streams for pain points, data points, and opportunities.

My Role

• Led the redesign and enhanced features of RehabTracker (iOS, Android, and Web)
• Led UI and work closely with our ethnographic researcher on UX
• Responsible for a consistent experience and brand across the platforms
• Responsible for transitioning the out-of-date brand into a fresh new identity
• Partnering with Stakeholders and client to help meet user requirements
• Delivered visual designs via Zeplin/Invision and worked closely with dev teams for QA
• Presented work to all stakeholders and dev
• Designed and managed the design system
• Responsible for all work meeting Accessibility Requirements
• Provided content creation guidelines based on web accessibility and statistics

Style Guide

The problem was that there was no branding emphasized with in the product, no thought behind consistency and no hierarchy within sections. I was able to create a style guide from scratch.

Experimenting off the Kindred Blue I was able to explore a new palette that refreshed the product but also made more logic. Documenting rules and restrictions, it became possible to communicate a consistent brand identity. Consistency was important for making this product recognizable and reliable.

• The primary colors were at the very core of RT and took a vital role in establishing a powerful image.
• I wanted to create a system that was frictionless from design to development.
• I established a strong hierarchy through typography that helped bring a balance to the product and help set the products overall tone.
• Thinking at an atomic level I was able to establish components that would be needed throughout the app. (primary/secondary call to actions, input fields, forms, check boxes, radio buttons, and iconography)

Design System

The reason I built out a design system was to keep consistency through the product. Knowing that most components would be reusable within the product. Components have been designed to be agnostic and have core interaction patterns so they can be used on both web and app platforms unless stated. This means only one universal component library was needed. For example, a plan or product card can look the same whether viewing it on the web or native app. Consistency is very important specifically for our audience. Targeting an older 60+ audience I had to test every component to meet a level AA+ accessibility. I also documented the general guidelines around accessibility to share internally with out team and externally with our client.

As the RehabTracker app continues to grow in scope, maintaining assets and seamless collaboration between our team and Kindred across platforms has become increasingly complex. Incorporating tools such as Invision has provided both teams with added transparency and better communication to improve overall efficiency and organization.

Visual Design

The goal of the design was to help guide our users to discharge. To provide a clear visual of the patient journey, so that their loved ones are able to track their progress

• A clear and concise way of viewing the patient goals through progress bars that indicate the level of therapy needed to get discharged
• Activity feed to share messages of support with your loved one
• Photos page where therapists could take photos of the patient to share with family
• VIP invite feature, so patients are able to invite anyone to track their progress
• Dietary screen so patients/family can track dietary restrictions
• Explored a floating menu for quicker and easier actions
• The use of iconography for more visual representation

Photo Editing Requirements

• User will have access to Blur, Draw and Crop Features
• Blurring is preferred for blurring faces in photos so it likely doesn't require a large blur but more likely a medium sized blur option
• Drawing will likely be used to write text on screen or use to draw attention to items such as circling, underlining, and pointing to things. This likely requires a pen like size (smaller than blurring). We would like to have a few color options for drawing just in case the user needs to draw over background images.

Crop feature is expected to be used to make photo shorter. The option should appear as an option in the design. When cropping, blurring and drawing should be disabled until cropping is complete. Cropping will allow the user to use a box to select what to keep in the image.
